Yes - I've also become obsessed by Keane since seeing them in Brighton in February this  year - I've always enjoyed their music, but seeing them perform live is 'something else'!!

Re: How did you discover Keane?

May 2006. I was preparing for the National Exams, locked myself in my room for the whole, idk, two weeks was it? I'm not a radio person but at that time I decided to listen to the radio while studying because I was bored of my cassette collection (YES, we still use cassettes in my part of the world) and my mp3 collection was just pure sh*te. Literally EVERY NIGHT my favourite radio station played IIAW?, but being the typical Indonesian radio station that it is, the DJs never really revealed the name of the artist/band and the title of the song. Until one day I saw the video being played on MTV. I was surprised. I had known about Keane, but I didn't think IIAW? is their song because the intro/chorus riff sounds convincingly enough like it's being played with a guitar and not a piano! I was totally head over heels for that song. I became a fan eversince.

Whoa, did I just write that wall-o-text? Big Smile

I discovered Keane in 2004. I remember being over at my friend's place and we had MTV on but we weren't really watching it - not until SOWK came on. For some reason it caught my attention, although I must confess that the first thing I noticed was a really good-looking guy (Tim). Big Smile But the song got stuck in my head and I kept hearing it on MTV and on the radio and pretty soon I bought Hopes and Fears - and the rest is history. I didn't really need more than that.
That's when you know you've found somebody really special, you can just shut the *** up for a minute and comfortably enjoy the silence.

the odd thing is, all these stories are quite different, but for most people it was love at first listen, instead of a gradual thing. that's the thing about Keane - as soon as any of their songs come on, it just draws you in and straightaway you're into it and singing along.

The first Keane song I heard on the radio was Somewhere Only We Know and I thought it was so amazing, such a beautiful song, it was in 2005. Some months later I heard Everybody's Changing and I got so crazy, the music was so perfect and the lyrics had everything to do with me, with what I was living, it was so deep. So, I saw them for the first time on The Live 8 and I fell in love completely, their passion, their power and they were so great playing live that I couldn't take my eyes off the TV. Then I never stoped to listen to them and to look for informations and everything.

On the TV there was a man who look like the guy I had dated for some time and he sang Bend And Break. We laughed at it together because he moved in the exact same way too! It became one of those things we joked about. We´re still together, its been 5 years :)

    Love this thread...

Well I was a resident at that time and was "on" for like 36 hours feeling really crappy... Then one of my friends told me to rest for a while and listen to some music in His Ipod. So he played UTIS for me and I LOVED every single song!! I can remember just letting go of all the hard and sad things that happened that weekend and just flowing with the songs...

I couldn´t stop listenning to Keane (everyday) ever since!! Big Smile

Well, I was living in China at that time, it was spring 2006 and I was on the cusp of a big cultural shock depression. I immured myself at home for days, watching bootleg western DVDs to fight China. And one day I found myself watching the credits of "The Lake House" and getting better immediately because of that song it was playing: Somewhere only we know. I was electrified, I didn't know that song and it spoke to my heart. I cried and the next months I discovered that every single song had this impact on me. I can't stop listening ever since! It makes me happy by now. :)

ha. Not for me. I first heard SOWK and I thought it was so stupid Stick out tongue
Took them playing Everybody's Changing on Regis & Kelly in 05 to get my attention. Bad time in my life...lyrics spoke to me like personally I guess. When I found out they also sang SOWK I was all mad haha. But I looked them up more anyway because of EC. And then yeah the other songs had to grow on me a bit. Cos Keane was never my type of music.
But now because of that I kinda listen to like.. almost everything. They really expanded my musical tastes. Although..bands that tend to get compared to Keane I still don't much care for. Weird.. but not the point. :p

I was about seventeen, so it must have been 2004...I was in the living room "working" on something for school and watching something on one of the channels that has adverts.  I remember hearing this amazing soaring voice and looking up to see three guys playing the piano, drumming and singing against a white background.  I don't know...something about the words and that voice completely mesmerised me and I loved them straight away.  I didn't even know what the name of the band was (must have missed the part of the ad where they showed the album name) so I think I ended up asking my (much more musically savvy) little brother which band sang the "everybody's changing" song Smile

Re: How did you discover Keane?

I love this thread, it's very interesting to hear people's stories :)

I was working at Petsmart when I heard them for the first time.  I usually tune out the overhead radio because it's usually a mix of Phil Collins and irritating pop music, but SOWK came on and the intro is so intense that my ears perked up for once.  I instantly fell in love with the song, but had no idea who the band was.  I then started hearing it on the radio and FINALLY a DJ said who the band was.  Keane...never heard of them.  I downloaded SOWK, listened to it repeatedly, then discovered IIAW in 06.  It wasn't actually until late 07 when I started dowloading songs like madness off itunes, then researched the band a little more.  Then, the obsession really took flight!  They're talented AND sexy!  :D

mmm....Well the only song I've heard of Keane until 2006 was Everybody's changing, that was of course on 2004,

at that time I didn't hear a lot of rock or pop music, I played the piano (I still do) but only classical...,So on great day of 2006

I hear this song.. 'Is it any wonder?' on the radio, I think they just played it like 3 or 4 times more on that radio station before

they take it off but from the moment I heard it it was amazing, 'Only a great band could come up with such a great song' I thought, and it was true...So that same day I bought Hopes and fears and Under the Iron sea, after that, listened their B-sides, watch their live shows, trying to find out more and more about this great band, making covers of them and eventually became.... the BIGGEST fan of Keane!

...I poked myself in the eye, there's no one there...
