Re: How did you discover Keane?

I discovered Keane early in 2004. My friend kept insisting to listen to her record, and me being the skeptic one (who mostly listened to CAKE, matchbox20, and the creed that time) was getting annoyed, so to make her shut up i said ok and plopped open my cd player. the first track was Somewhere Only We Know, and the first thing i said was, "Is that a girl singing?" oh gawd, hate me but it was true. I became curious because i could hear the tenor in Tom's voice, so it had to be a boy! The next thing i knew, i snatched the CD from my friend and bought it from her. Until then i was listening to Hopes and Fears whenever I read my favorite book. I even memorized all the lyrics after 3 hours of listening.

Under the Iron Sea, was like a vague dream for me. I busied and buried myself in books and academics from college, so i wasnt aware of the second album. I had no social life so no music as well. And then when i had to be awake for three whole nights for a design prototype, I rediscovered Keane by accident with their UTIS album. They were having this concert on tv, and hell i couldnt take my eyes off the screen. Hamburg Song captivated me, i was in a trance! Sadly though i didnt buy the album.

And as for Perfect Symmetry, it was again by accident. Funny, they keep tracking me down. lol. I was on my way to college and my dad was driving. I was in a rut that day, i was angry because i havent got enough sleep, i was stressed and depressed over my college thesis, i was on a verge of a breakdown. Then dad turned the radio on, and there goes Spiralling. I really assumed it was The Killers, but then the vocals were eerily familiar, it wasnt Brandon Flowers at all!  Good Lord, did i jump from the backseat when i heard it was Keane's latest single. It was like an epiphany! I couldnt get my mind to focus the whole day, so before i even ate dinner, i already googled Perfect Symmetry. After a month, after all the *** that's done, i bought the album. Boy, i couldn't be happier.

There it is. It's a love-hate relationship. My love story with Keane. I'm sorry if i talk waaaay too much.

When I let my sister hear a Keane song (lol I thought Keane were too good for her) she said the same thing: "Is a woman singing?" That was so funny. So predictable.

haha yeah... i loved the creed and the calling before...

Tom's voice is quite unique. He is one of the few vocalists who can really pull off that kind of voice range!...

Re: How did you discover Keane?

I was watching a rerun of One Tree Hill, one night in June. That night, in fact, was the night before my science final, but I thought that if I'd have to spend another minute studying I would come down with a fatal illness. So I watched OTH, episode 2x2 (I still remember) and towards the end, when Brooke is looking in the mirror, EC is playing. I HAD to know what that song was. So I looked it up, downloaded it, and played it over and over again the next day during the exam (we weren't allowed, but I couldn't resist.) After acing the test I returned home and spent the evening discovering new songs and loving every single one. And I lived happily ever after. Down with studying!

I was watching MTV one day about four or five years ago, and Somewhere Only We Know's music video came on..

I asked for Hopes and Fears for my 12th birthday..I would have never guessed five years later I'd see them in concert and even meet them :0)

I saw them on a talk show my mum likes a few years ago, but didn't pay much attention....my friend had a few CD's and I recognized the name of the band...finally I was looking up a song on youtube "Bend and Don't Break" and then "related searches" led me to "Bend and Break" by KEANE. I was hooked from then on. My first concert was this year. Absolutely smashing!

It was on high school (9th grade), my english teacher liked Keane especially Somewhere Only We Know, he used to to talk a lot about that song and how romantic it was. Somehow that song was my first encounter with english, it is very special song.

Funnily enough, through Doctor Who. I had been having a very bad week (high school is kind of that way), and I was searching for the last episode of season 2 on YouTube... found a The Doctor/Rose tribute video set to ABD. Needless to say, the lyrics set me over the edge, and I started bawling uncontrollably. Immediately YouTube searched "Keane" when I was done blubbering... bought H&F a few days later and it's been an addiction ever since!!

I discovered Keane in a rather random way.

In 2004, I had an incident with a kettle which caused second degree burns down my left side of my body, and it was painful to do anything after I'd done this, so I just lolled about on the sofa watching the music channels. This happened early- August, and "Everybody's Changing" was on a lot, and I really liked that. After I'd recovered, I didn't really pay much attention to them again until I watched V Festival 2006 - ironically not one of the band's favourite moments, but I really loved thier atmosphere - especially on Bedshaped, so the next week I bought UTIS and H&F and I have been a fan ever since.

Seeing them live is my greatest Keane-related achievement though - I like them even more now.

well, my cousin's best friend was a fan of Keane and we started talking and he told me to listen to them. So i did, and it was amazing, i had never heard anything so instantly grabbing. So, my cousin's friend got me Under The Iron Sea and it just went from there and now i know by heart, practically every song that they have created. Now me and that friend have been talking ever since and i guess in a way, Keane has brought us closer together. so thanks Tom, Tim, and Richard =)

     My answer:

I was sitting eating my lunch one sunday lunchtime in 2006 and I was watching tv. Suddenly, an advert comes up for UTIS and that's how I discovered Keane.

i found keane in a kind of unusual way.. through pandora.com. anybody use that site? its like internet radio.. you type in a song and it finds others similar to it. anyway, i think i typed in a coldplay song, and i found crystal ball (i know everyone hates the keane/coldplay comparisons but im thankful for them cause thats how i found keane!)! i became completely obsessed with the song so i went to itunes and bought it and hopes and fears (which is really kind of stupid considering crystal ball is from under the iron sea..) and loved the entire album. i didnt really start getting hardcore obsessed till i bought under the iron sea about a month later. how can you not be obsesed with a band that has 2 insanely perfect albums?! then perfect symmetry came out and i love it, though not quite as much as the other two. just love, not obsession love.. though it was the album that started the keane-googling obsession.. which lead to me finding km.com (yayy!)..

thank god, for pandora.com, right? :D

Well you know how some songs in your life stay in your brain and they dont leave? well Somewhere Only We Know was like that for a long, long time and it never moved to the front of my brain until i heared it on the TV, and i loved it so much, i went on iTunes to find it. When i did i bought the song, later i bought the album, which is funny cuz i usually dont like all the songs on an album, but on this one i did :D

I had remembered listening to SOWK a long time ago when it first came out but then i remembered that i liked it time after that. Then I found Try Again and fell in love with that song. I heard Spiralling and loved it. So that is when i finally decided to do something about it. I went out and bought Perfect Symmetry... Loved it... Knew I needed MORE KEANE so i bought UTIS.... still wanted MORE KEANE so i got Hopes and Fears.

    Funny, i bought them backwards.

Why did I started listening Keane's music?

It's funny because I noticed keane because I was watching somewhere only we know video and I realized Tom looked a lot like the guy that I liked at that time, That guy became my boyfriend.

You see, I fell in love with keane's music just about the same time i fell in love of my ex-boyfriend more than 5 years ago.

The guy was kind of a jerk to me and once, he asked me to make him a CD, hopping to tell him how miserable he had made me feel I included We might as well be strangers. It worked....

The reason I love Keane's music it's because sometimes I feel that their song can tell exactly what I feel.

     My favorites are:

    She has no time

We might as well be strangers

    Love is the end

    On a day like today

The guy broke up with me a week ago, and  Love is the end is the song I have in my head.

    What's your story?

Dont think i can actually remember how i got into Keane.

I know H&F was massive in the UK back in 04, so i probably saw it on MTV/Radio etc, i remember having the album, and really loving We Might As Well Be Strangers, i actually was writing a script in 2005, and that song is a soundtrack to one of the scenes, and thats the first memory i have of Keane.
