Hello my dearest Keane boardies!

I was looking through the archive on km.com a while ago and noticed a picture from July 2008. It shows some parts of a recording studio and a Brazil flag which had some stuff written on it (by KEANE fans I guess). I was thinking about this a lot and came up with an idea. It´ll probably be a rather big effort for everyone who wants to participate but I think it would definitely be worth it!

Alright, so here´s what I had in mind (it may sound a little complicated, so please don´t hesitate to ask me anything):

The whole idea is about putting together a huge "world-flag". This basically means that someone (me probably) will start by buying (or making) a German flag and write a little message for our Keanies on it. Then I would send my flag to another KEANE fan anywhere in the world. For example Cris, so I would send my little flag to Brazil. Then Cris would buy (or make) a Brazil flag, write her little message on it and put it together with my flag. Basically she would sew her flag to mine. Maybe another example: Cris would send the German and Brazil flag to Maayan to NYC. Same thing goes for Maayan. Buying (or making) a USA flag, writing her message on it, sewing it together with the other two.

I hope you get the idea. If not, please ask me. 

There are some things to consider though:

1. The individual flags can´t be too big of course. So if enough people decide to join me, we should probably agree on a size for the flags.
2. Another idea would be that every one who adds their flag to the "world-flag" takes of picture of themselves with the flag and sends it to me (via e-mail). Then I would put a whole photo album together with the photos of the people who participated. Maybe post them here in the forum too.
3. The only effort there would be for every one of us, is buying (or making) a flag and paying for the postage to the next person (which can´t be that much since the flag won´t be to heavy or anything - depending of course on how many people want to participate).

So I would collect adresses (via PM) for the next 4 - 6 weeks. I´d put them in some random order. There´d be only ONE list that pretty much goes around the world with the flag. You need to make sure to send it with your flag to the next person!

I would ask everyone to send me a PM (or a mail with the picture) when the flag arrives at their place. Just so I can check where the flag is at the moment and so this whole "mission" doesn´t go to hell. ;)

Cris is (hopefully) coming to visit me the next time KEANE are on tour in Germany or the UK. So I´d try to get in touch with Richard (via twitter) or someone else from km.com, so we can make sure we can definitely get to give it to the guys. If that doesn´t work out, we´ll be just waiting at the back of the venue (just like every other KEANE fan would do) and give it to them then. 

*** Alright, I know this is a lot of information right now and it sounds soooooo complicated but I really do think we can do something quite amazing here for our beloved KEANies...

Official RULES for the KEANE World Flag Project:

1. The size of the flag should be ca. 30 x 45 cm. Can be a little bigger or smaller depending on how many people are going to sign the flag. But remember, let´s not make it too big! (PM me if you´re not sure what size your flag should be!)
2. I will collect all the individual flags (simply because it´s easier - you´re right, Maayani!)! I´ll send a PM with my adress to everyone who wants to participate.
3. Please make sure you send me a PM as soon as you´ve mailed your flag to me, so I know what to expect!
4. By the way, we can have more than one flag from each country! Of course if only one person is signing their flag, don´t make the flag too big!
5. Make sure you put the date of when you signed the flag on it too!
6. Please remember to take a picture of yourself with the signed flag before you send it to me! I´m planning on making a photoalbum for the guys too, so they´ll see who we are, where we live and so on.
7. Please leave some space between your message and the edge of the flag! I don´t want to cover up any messages when I sew the flags together!
8. The picture issue: Maybe you can get someone to take a picture of you while you´re writing something on the flag!? The more pictures we have, the bigger (and better) the photoalbum!
9. I created a new e-mail account just for our project! Please put your forum name in the subject box in case your e-mail adress doesn´t reveal your name! The official e-mail adress for all the pictures is: caroline.keaneflag@yahoo.de
Please try to send your pictures in JPG-files and NOT in PNG-files! I´ve had some trouble ordering pictures that were send to me in PNG-files, so please send them to me in JPG-files! Thanks.
10.EVERYONE WHO HAS SEND ME THEIR PICTURES TO THE E-MAIL ADRESS ABOVE WILL GET AN E-MAIL FROM ME WITH THE ADRESS FOR THE FLAGS!!!
11. The official DEADLINE is December 31st!!!
If you won´t be able to make that date, please let me know via PM in advance and we can try to work something out.

Woww what can I say my girl?? AWESOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME idea!! Of course I'm so in!! You can count on me, this is such a lovely way to show them how much their music affects our lives and gives us the chance of meeting some amazing friends all around this world. And I agree that we have to decide the flag size and that it can't be too big. And hey, of course that me and Maayani (look at me answering for her lol) don't worry about that, it's probably what's going to happen . I'll try to talk to some friends about it.

Alrighty then, since Cris said I'd do it now I guess I'll have to..

JUST KIDDING I'd love to. However since our band of Keanies in the States is a tight band, how about we decide on the size of each square (maybe 30 cm by 30 cm, which is about one square foot), and have everyone from that part of the world/city sign?

For example I would want all the NY Keanies to sign ours. Maybe add one of those corny "I (heart) NY" on it. So Caroline, maybe I'll get/have someone make an American flag that's 30x30 cm (or maybe 30x40, as most flags are longer on one side?), and have all Keanies coming to Brooklyn sign it, then send it to you?

Rather than sewing it all together, just send the pieces to you? (or would that mean you would have to sew the whole thing...?)

Anyway we can figure out the logistics later, but to start with can I just try and find a flag about that size, and have everyone sign it? If they want to. Then I can send it to you or to Cris or to lizzy in Holland or whatever?  (ha ha see how I got you in there Lizzy)

Let me know. WOOOOOOO I can send it to Israel to the Keane Forum there! Yeah I love this idea. We need a schedule though. And a deadline. "Sister/Brotherhood of the Travelling Keane Flag" . Love it.

I love your idea! It might make it all a little easier! I agree with the size of the flag too. Maybe even a little bigger. Depending on how many people you can get to sign it in Brooklyn. So that´s totally up to you!

And yes, you can send the flag to me. I´m going to collect all the pieces and I´ll put it together. Actually a friend of mine will do it since she totally knows what she´s doing.

It would be great if you could tell someone on the KEANE forum in Israel about all this! Maybe pass along my adress, so they can send their flag to me. Thank you, Maayani! 

And for the deadline: I would suggest everyone who wants to send a flag to me can do so for the rest of the year. I doubt that KEANE will come back to Germany this year, so I think that´d be ok. But I´m open for any other suggestions of course!

So maybe your friends can all sign your Brazil flag and you just split the cost for postage and the flag by the people who signed.

I've found a website that sells a hand flag at 18 x 12 inches - about 45 x 30 cm.  Sounds ideal.  Anyone interested, please PM me so I know to go ahead and buy the flag!

Yes that sounds great and i think you should go with the red,white and blue colours but will that be alright to write on?

and i will PM you my message but what do we write ?

I'm rubbish at thinking up anything remotely witty or interesting, but will try to come up with something.

The writing would show up OK on the red and white bits...maybe silver pen for the blue?  Or I'd be happy to backstitch over anyone's message in gold or silver thread on the darker parts.

I've added a plea to my siggy to try and recruit more signees, and will hop over to FB to see if anyone is interested there!  My inbox is always open if anyone else is interested in joining in!
