    Is the Keane Forum dying?

I hate to post this - but this place reminds me of that Specials song "Ghost Town."

I hate to see it happen.  I really, really do.

^Well, I think social media has had an affect on the board, but really I think this is just a lull; when there's nothing new going on in Keaneland this place gets pretty deserted, but once things pick up I'm sure more people will be around.

Yeah, FaceBook has made a major difference.  I have tried the Keane FaceBook page - and I don't like it at all.  I much prefer this one.

When are things going to pick up?  Any ideas?  I guess Rich tweeted something about a new album next year.  Are you serious, Rich.  Next year?

I think all we need is a few people to keep posting just to keep it ticking over. I think fun and games is still okay!

So long as there's someone to play with.

Never too tired to talk, apparently.

Eh, I don't think waiting until next year for an album is so bad; I think them not feeling rushed and taking their time will be a good thing (besides we don't know when next year, for all we know it could be January ). As for when things will pick up, that's hard to say.  But if they give us teasers on km.com like with Perfect Symmetry, I imagine that'll spark some re-interest in the board.

Mrs D you can always go back to spending your evenings with me whilst you wait for a concert or album to reignite the forum.

I'll even let you win at Scrabble.

You'll 'let' me win, eh? Delusions.

Oh, Mr & Mrs D, I've missed you!! The Keane Facebook page used to be OK when it had discussions and stuff, but still wasn't the same as good old km.com.

I think many regulars are drifting away due to heavy boredom. This hiatus, this waiting for the masterpiece to come without the tiniest snipped of information is tiresome. I never thought I would say this, but I miss even the the crackpots, they were kind of entertaining or sparking some discussions. Tongue TiedSleepBroken Heart CHrrrrrrrrZZZZZZzzzzzzz.....

Who are these "crackpots?"  I hope you weren't thinking of me.  Devil

4 years ago. That would be 2005. I´d be interested to hear why you think so.

Oups. I did not get my math right. 2007 then. When km.com became fully commercialized. I understand.

I have NEVER been to Houston, so I could never have been a part of any incident that happened there! Wink

I am a bitter old man too.  I'd love to hear why you think the forum died 4 years ago.  I joined in early 2009, and since then there has been a huge drop off in posts here.  Social media like FaceBook & Twitter have something to do with it, that's for sure.  As for Keane becoming commercialized, well, that is the only way bands can survive these days.

Re: Is the Keane Forum dying?

I first joined the old forum on May 2004. I was a regualr poster (exactly 5,000 posts) Back then it was a great place to come. There used to be intellegent discussions, debates that could go on for days without anyone falling out or anyone's ego's taking over. It was a nice environment.

Then we had the influx of Americans joining the board which brought something different to the board, then slowly but surely more and more people from different corners of the world came aboard. Don't get me wrong, I am not blaming the influx of others for the downfall of the board but suddenly the board went from a music forum to a teen forum. Threads about Iraq and Iran changed to Who is the hottest member of the band and Who fancied Tim the most. It was no longer for me.

I went from being a regular poster to a lurker to popping in once a month and now this is the first time I've visited the forum in about 18 months.

It's a shame because it used to be such a nice place to come, and I've met some great people on here, some who I still keep in touch with. Maybe I out-grew the site. Maybe I enjoyed the close knit community it once was. I dunno. It's a shame though.

Re: Is the Keane Forum dying?

Wouldn't you say that it's the nature of the beast for internet forums to have a kind of ebb and flow of contributors? Some stay, some move on to other places. Km is going through a kind of sub-hibernation phase at the moment, due to the lack of news about the band. Ticking over, but not much more. Right now, nobody is replacing the posters who have moved on, and there's a kind of lethargy amongst regulars who look in but aren't inspired to say anything as there's not much to discuss. For myself, items on the news page about Mt Desolation, for example, don't really count. Fair enough in the beginning to let fans know about a side project, but it's not exactly Keane news, is it?
