Re: Keane in SLC - is anyone going?
I'll be there too!! I'm from Denver so I'll be going to their show here the night before and then will make the drive to SLC overnight to see them again with a friend who lives in UT. I've been a fan for many years, but haven't been able to see them live before, so I'm very excited to see them two nights in a row!....Although I do agree the GA part of it isn't so great...I've never been to a GA concert before - anyone know how early you have to show up for a decent spot?

Re: Keane in SLC - is anyone going?
I haven't received my tickets either...I just reread the initial email today that said they should be mailed three weeks prior. I was a little worried that perhaps they had been mailed and (a) they got lost in the mail (b) they were mailed to me but I didn't check the mail closely enough and thought they were junk mail and tossed them in recycle. So I guess I'm glad (sort of) to hear that I'm not the only one who hasn't received tickets. Maybe tomorrow :)

Re: Keane in SLC - is anyone going?
I was wondering the same thing about how early to show up. We're driving down from Seattle and plan to arrive early afternoon. I think each venue/artist vary on how early fans show up. We went to Muse in Portland and arrived around 4:00 to find a huge line. We saw Devotchka in Seattle and showed up at 5:30 and were among the first in. I've been to a couple Keane concerts prior to this, but they were always assigned seating. And I was totally spoiled by getting super close seats - i.e. front row, hanging off the stage and looking up at Tom all night kind of seats :)

Sorry to butt in here - not going to the gig, but each time I see this thread I think, "Keane in Sovereign Light Cafe". Apparently I belong in the YKOHGWTFW thread! OK, I'm going again now.

Same here, Sarah. It's a very tiny venue, but I'd definitely be on the list. *leaves the thread, never to return*
Never too tired to talk, apparently.

I'm going to this gig too I'm looking forward to this one quite a bit, I've wanted to go to Salt Lake since I started working for jetBlue 5 years ago. I'll be spending the next day doing a bit of touristy things. I don't have my tickets for this one yet either

Yay! Glad you're making it to Salt Lake! I saw my first Keane concert there in 2009. It was truly amazing :) And there's lots to see there -- the Wasatch Front is spectacular. Some day I hope to make it to NYC...
Still no tickets in the mail...maybe tomorrow. But just so long as they get to me before we start the long road trip south...

Re: Keane in SLC - is anyone going?
I've got my tickets already, but bought them from the venue's own website...did you all get yours from Keane's website? If so, I saw on their twitter account today that they had "posted" the Gallivan Center tickets and that they were sorry for the delay. I'm guessing posted means that they have been mailed? So hopefully you will all be getting your tickets very soon!!

Yay! I have my tickets! And I was surprised to realize that this is an outdoor venue. Somehow I totally missed that until now. Should be cool, though. (Actually, temperature wise it should be rather hot). I'm planning to get there on the early side...hope to be able to be up front. I'm somewhat vertically challenged and don't appreciate tall people standing in front of me blocking my view :\

Re: Keane at Gallivan Center (Salt Lake) - is anyone going?
I'l be at the Gallivan in SLC-Love that venue! For concerts, it can hold up to 4500 people, hardly tiny...also love that it is GA. GA is great, even though it requires getting to the venue super early to claim your favorite spot, at least you aren't stuck in the same spot way in the back behind the 8 foot man with a big head sitting right in front of you who is blocking your view... Early is a relative term...it totally depends on the venue and the band. For Keane though, I think there will be a line when you get there, regardless of what time you arrive...Being so hot today though, it may not be as long earlier than it is later.
FYI - point & shoot cameras are OK, folding chairs w/legs less than 6" are OK (but you have to sit in the back if you bring those...), blankets are OK.
No professional cameras or video. No outside food or beverages, but there are vendors inside selling food & drinks. If you are vegetarian or vegan, there may not be too many options, so eat before you go. There are also beer vendors but not other alcoholic beverages. There are ATMs inside. No re-entry. Dedicated smoking section is behind the stage. Clean, numerous, real restroom facilities (not port-a-potties)on 200 S side (between State & Main)
Parking...Lots of meters on the street- $1.50/hour, but you can pay in coins or with a debit card. Underground parking and nearby parking terraces are kind of expensive. Outside parking lots range between $3-$5 per day. If you don't want to deal with parking, take TRAX. It stops on Main Street, right in front of the venue. Concert curfew at Gallivan is 10/10:30 pm, and most TRAX routes stop around midnight. About $5 for a RT ticket, unless you get on & off within the free fare zones within Downtown. http://www.rideuta.com/mc/?page=UTA-Home-TRAX

I bought my tickets from the Fanclub - if they weren't mailed, they should be at will call. Bring your email confirmation and ID with you. Box Office usually opens at 3 but it may not open until 4. Box Office is on the Main Street side of Gallivan.

Re: Keane at Gallivan Center (Salt Lake) - is anyone going?
I have to
say that June 26 was the best night of my life - all thanks to Keane! The crowd
at the Gallivan Center was very large and LOUDLY sang along to every single
song. Tom, Tim, Richard, and Jesse all seemed to really be into it and were
very happy with such a warm reception - Tom mentioned that they felt it was
by far the best gig they've had on this tour and that they were loving every minute of their time on that stage. With it being a GA concert, I
showed up about an hour and a half before the doors opened and managed to get a
pretty decent spot while I waited for a few friends going with me to get off
work. When we finally got in there were already quite a few people up at the
front of the stage, but we managed to get a spot on Jesse's side of the stage
in the front row. I was extremely excited to get front row since I hadn't ever
gotten that close before, but was a little unsure of being off to the side. One
of the friends I went with decided he would rather be in the center in the
second row, but me and my other friend were a little worried about standing behind
some tall people in the front row, so we stayed off to the side. Throughout the night we slowly got pushed farther and
farther to the left, which was fairly disappointing, but I'm still very thankful we were able to be as close as we were. Tom
did venture to our side of the stage a number of times, which made it even better! They sang a good mix of old and new songs with a setlist similar to what
the other stops on the U.S. tour have been, but it went by way too fast! The
security guard staring us in the face for the entire night told us that they
were only doing one encore, which was disappointing, but turns out he was
wrong...The crowd was going wild and loudly chanted "Keane" after the
first encore so they did end up coming back out for a second encore where they
sang My Shadow. We all tried for a third encore, but unfortunately, and
expectedly it didn't work. After seeing them the night before in Denver and
then driving out to Salt Lake that day, having very little sleep or food,
and then standing up for 4 and half hours, I could hardly walk or think, but it
was something I will never forget and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! I
didn't know it was possible, but I now love more than ever before...Thank you
Keane for the amazing performance and for enriching my life with your music! I
don't know if there will ever be a day in my life that will be able to top it! I will try to post a few photos when I get home to Colorado in a few days, and
will be sure to get some of my friend's amazing photos as I know you will all
love and appreciate them!

Amazed by Salt Lake City Show
I have to say that the SLC show was excellent all-around. I have been to many, many concerts (mostly rock), but have seen Keane only once before - at Coachella in 2005. Every member of the band gave their all. There was nothing half-way about their performance and I hope to get the message to them that it did not go unnoticed. They sounded amazing and the addition of the bass (Jesse) to the lineup added depth to the live show. Two encores was a great surprise! Ending with "My Shadow" was powerful. This was the first concert I have taken any of my children to and I was hopeful they would enjoy it. I could not have asked for a better experience! The venue was great, the band was engaging, and the music was spot-on. I can truly say it was the best experience I have shared with my two oldest children. My 12 year-old son came to me the next day, put his arms around me, and thanked me for taking him to the show. What could possibly be better? There are very few concerts I would take my children to, but my two
oldest kids have enjoyed Keane's music with me over the past 7 years, so
I took them to the show. I experienced an emotional moment with my
arms around my 10 year-old daughter as the band opened with "You Are
Young." I still get choked-up thinking about it.
There is so much I want to say, but I should end with just one other thing - Thank you to Keane for such an enjoyable album with Strangeland. I am a married father of 4 and the music taps into thoughts, feelings, and emotions that I can relate to. I have enjoyed every Keane album, but thank you for making such an entertaining album that I can share with my children wholeheartedly. It's great music.

Re: Amazed by Salt Lake City Show
Kari and leafandwing, thank you for sharing your wonderful concert experiences! The SLC show sounds amazing! And two encores!!! I can honestly say myself after seeing them for the first time in Chicago, it was *the* best concert I have EVER seen and one of the greatest nights of my life. I am still reeling from it. As I'm sure you both understand, it's almost something you can't explain. You just *have* to see them live. They are incredible.
