It will be great to see if he can portray the torment of the Doctor though and if he can at such a young age i'll be excited!  Good luck Matt.  I'm sure I'll cry at David Tennant's final moments as the Doctor though he is magnificent.

I have to say, I've never knowingly come across him before (although it turns out that I must have seen him in The History Boys), but when they played a clip of him on the news before with Billie I thought he was a lot older than he was, and had a bit of the Doctors of old about him.  So I reckon he could well pull it off.  And, once again: FANTASTIC HAIR.

I'll definitely miss David Tennant, but let's face it, his star will be in the ascent even more now!  And I'm sure you and I will find many excuses to go see him on stage, Clara ;)

I don't think I'll need an excuse to be honest!!! Big Smile

I could see why.  The Doctor has been through A LOT in the last season.

I am going to miss David Tennant terribly, but from what I can see in the interviews with him, Matt Smith seems like an interesting guy.  I wish him the best of luck and look forward to seeing his portrayal of The Doctor.

And yes... He does have fab hair!

My little brother has never seen Doctor Who and so he and I have been watching my DVDs (we're on the third season).  He really like DT's Doctor... =[

Re: The one and only DOCTOR WHO thread

Have to say...I'm in two minds here. Not really sure if I'll take to Matt Smith as easily as I did DT, but that's just on a quick watch of a couple of clips, as I don't know his work. The idea of having a younger actor will be interesting, and will probably result in a different fan base.I'll be interested to see how this Doctor's relationship with people such as Captain Jack works. And if he ever catches up with his 'daughter' again! Matt certainly has the 'look' of a Doctor, if there is such a thing..even his hand movements were similar to DT (as they moved from one interview to the other). There is a dark and broody-ness about him, but with a twinkle in the eye, if you get me.

I loved the fact that there was a special programme to introduce him (watched by millions, as well!) even though there is about a year to go yet!

And I loved the fact that 'Spiralling' was played ALL the time in the background!!!!

Big Smile Me too! I think it was played about 5 times or so

I turned the volume up really loud to hear it better, and I kind of missed most of what the people were saying xD

My family must think I'm mad, but maybe I am

We're all a little mad, but it was good that they specifically picked Keane as the background music....just for Clara and the rest of us!!! LOL

Me too, i thought it was really clever the way they just randomly cut to a clip of him talking, no fanfare... nothing... I'm thinking '' Huh?'' untill '' eleventh doctor'' appears in small print at the bottom. very clever indeed.

Can't wait too see what matt brings to the role though, I watched him in the ruby in the smoke a couple of years back, good actor, I like the fact they've given an unknown a break too, hopefully he'll embrace the role and stick around for a few years just like David has done. Also i hope David gets a really spectacular departure and gets to go with a bang, something really befitting for what he's bought to the show. Does anyone know when the Regeneration is supposed to take place, christmas day? or matt will begin proper in the first episode of the next full series?

I read in the paper that DT will regenerate in the Christmas special for 2009.  But I would guess it would be at the end.  Either way, I have no doubt that I'll need tissues at the ready!!

I will be balling my eyes out when david leaves, that regeneration scene!!!!!  Crying The new guy, Matt, well he looks interesting and I am quite excited to see him play the doc, even if I haven't a clue who he is!!!!   I am glad of that, no expectations of him.

I couldn't believ it when I hear DT was leaving. I was actually in a Poundland shop in St Andrews, Scotland when I heard, because they had Radio 1 playing the news in the background. I just stopped browsing and was like 'What?!?!? No!' Because I think everyone loves him as the doctor so much (especially my friends lol)

I found this interview with Matt Smith:

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Zog-6SrGxE0&feature=channel

I love the way he says 'flabbergasted' so many times :D

I think he'll bring his own representation of the Doctor to the screen, Russel T Davies did say that they were amazed with his acting, and they'll have chosen him to fit Stephen Moffat's darker style of writing. I can't really judge, because I'm afraid to admit I hadn't really heard of David Tennant when he took up the role (though I saw him later in Blackpool) and I know he was in Casanova, but I never watched that. I'm quite excited, but sad at the same time because there's only 5 more episodes of DT Crying

I'm trying hard to just wait and see how he will do, but I'm mildly afraid. I saw this on Facebook, and laughed out loud:

I kept having to concentrate hard not to be distracted by Spiralling being played in the background!

I see Michelle Ryan has been confirmed as being in the  next special being filmed. Hmm what with the rumours that she is going to be involved when Matt takes over it wouldn't suprise me if they are paving a way in for her early on now (Just watch it she'll end up dead at the end of the episode to prove the theory wrong!) But they've always had that element of suprise from the companion as the doctors regenerated in the past haven't they, someone there thats had a connection with the 'past version'

I heard this, but to be honest, I am reckoning she won't be a permanent companion, as she was linked to being Rose's replacement.  And to be honest, the WHO team have a habit of picking someone completely different to expectations, and that no one has ever heard of!  Interesting though....as this doctor is so young, will they get a companion of similiar age or older?

I doubt they'd pick someone too much older, as it would remove the possibility of anything happening, and even Donna ended up kissing him at one point. The potential needs to be there. I have to say, I thought I'd stop watching Doctor Who once DT left, but that was thinking I wouldn't like the new doctor, but he seems like an interesting character so I'll give him a chance! And yep, Spiralling made that doc. even better.  My boyfriend came round soon after and he was like: 'how could you CONTROL yourself?! I bet you were kissing the screen!'

Embarrassed he's so nice to me...

Is it absolutely necessary that there has to be a romantic element to the relationship?  Yes, Donna kissed the Doctor, that seemed to be in the female lead's contract (and you can understand why!), but I enjoyed their relationship without the threat of some unrequited or unspoken romance.  I don't think they could be too much older anyway (because the public likes youth) but you can't get much younger than the new doctor can you?!

Apparently the woman who is going to be playing Maggie Thatcher this week, is going to be the Doctor's companion in the second special, and that the first special, which is being filmed now, will be shown at Easter time.

Re: The one and only DOCTOR WHO thread

All my life, the Doctor has been considerably older than I am. Now they seem to be getting younger and younger - and not only because I've got older. DT is younger than I am! The new guy is a child! What is the world coming to?
