After getting over the cynicism of the announcement (heard it before in the early/mid 90's) and listening to Foot of The Mountain again - I truly am saddened by the news that A-ha will be disbanding in 2010. I think they've wanted to end their time as a band for awhile but haven't been completely happy until now with their most recent albums as a "final release". Foot of the Mountain is a proper good-bye. It's a nod to their past but also the most solid album they've released in awhile.

I had troubles this morning purchasing a ticket to their final show in Oslo next December but one kind fan heard about my issues and offered me a standing ticket at cost so I'll be able to be there for their final good-bye next year. It'll definitely be a bittersweet affair..

Heard what before in the early/mid '90s? They never officially split up that time: it was always their intention to reunite as a band eventually, and they did (in 1998). This time it's different. I'm totally in shock. Combining a-ha with their separate projects seemed to be working well for them, so I kind of assumed they'd carry on like that forever.

Why are they having their farewell concert in such a small venue? Its capacity is less than 10,000. When they decided to split, couldn't they have booked a stadium for a proper send-off?

I can't remember exactly when but they did say at some point through the 90's that they were done as a band, although no official announcement such as the one yesterday was made. And why such a small venue? Perhaps they wanted a more intimate send off? It's not like they aren't touring between now and then. It sounds like they are covering a lot of miles in the next 12-14 months allowing as many fans as possible to enjoy them live one last time..

    Re: A-ha

So with them saying they will do some Uk festivals does that mean they won't actually be doing ANY concerts in arenas just them on their own, cos i'd much rather just go and see them and no-one else whereas festivals have other artists too. Me and my sis went to see them at the SECC in Glasgow on Dec 4th 2005 and we hope to be able to at least see them one last time b4 they split but we hope they play in Scotland though cos we don't want to go any further.

    Re: A-ha

I went to see A-ha in Cologne (Lanxess Arena) last night. They were FANTASTIC ! Without a doubt the best A-ha show I've ever been to. They played for almost two hours. Morten's singing was flawless and absolutely beautiful. The visuals on the screens were amazing and three huge inflatebles were hilarious. They looked like they had fun.
They played some songs I hadn't heard live for ages. It's so sad they're quitting just now they're better than ever!!!

The support act Stanfour was really great too. I hope to see them again as well. Love them!!!

    Here's some photos I took:

Morten Harket is a shining example of the truth that god does not love all men equally. I think it is unfair that he does not age at all while all us other "mere mortals" have to be victims of the inevitable aging process. My mother is convinced the guy has had surgery done to look younger. I told her it's natural but she's being super stubborn about this.

It's the Scandinavian genes. We age very well ;-)

Oh I absolutely believe that. I am very very jealous - especially of Morten Harket. I am 27. If I can look like he does at 35, I'd consider myself fortunate.

Yes, he looks amazing for a 50-year-old!!! It's not fair, is it?

Remember Tom said Morten was the healthiest looking man he had ever encountered? With lungs like hot air balloons. LMAO. He nailed the 'aaaaaaask' bit in 'Summer moved on'  perfectly last night, btw.

I think I'm gonna buy tickets to see them again in Oberhausen on November 12. I think I need to see them as often as possible before it's all over. Crying

    Re: A-ha

All you Europeans are one pampered bunch. I live in the US and no one here even knows that A-Ha has been back for nine years and is making better music than ever. Most of my friends cannot even relate to my gripes about this since I am in my 20s and technically should not even be listening to A-Ha. I was not a fan in the 80s (was way too young when these guys were idolized). I became a fan on a trip to Bombay (India) in December 2000. I watched the video of "Summer Moved On" on MTV India and that was what did it for me. That, in my opinion, is the seminal A-Ha single - especially since it won me over and made me a fan - something I wasn't to begin with. Now, I am pretty obsessed with their music. I keep hearing about all these concert reviews in Europe and cannot even dream of watching these guys in concert. Now, with them having announced their curtain call next year, this might not even happen for me. I have to find some way to fly down to Europe and catch them in concert before I regret not doing it. Hell, it wouldn't be the first time. Flew down to London in Dec 2006 to watch George Michael at Wembley Arena!!!

    Pranav,

They'll be here (in the US) in May for 2 weeks.  Specific dates and locations haven't been announced yet, so let's cross our fingers they'll be somewhere close!

    Re: A-ha

I too am very thankful for and indeed impressed with MTV India-I was in chennai at the time, had the tv on in the background when i heard familiar singing.I ran to the tv and almost fainted to see my beloved A-Ha on TV with a new single. I knew I would have NEVER seen it if I was in the states.I begged my sis to send me the album the next day. Consider myself very lucky to have seen them in Irving plaza. I hope when they come to the US it will bE a bigger VENUE, but still have that intimate feel.

    Re: A-ha

They probably will target the 2,000 - 3,000 seat venues in North America. That's my gut feeling anyway.. Hopefully they'll go with the older music venues like Keane did last tour that have great acoustics.

I can't believe it.. one week from tonight I'll be at the O2 in London seeing a-ha (properly) live for the first time since 1987! And I don't count last year's event at the Royal Albert Hall because that was barely an a-ha concert. Is anyone else here going?
