I think that Tom's voice is beautiful, and he makes each song special. I'm impressed by the way his voice has improved too-at the O2 gig in Feb, it was so much better than I'd heard. But I also love Matt's voice from 'Muse'. When he sings 'Unintended', that draws me in the same way as Tom's. So I have to say both have my love.

Am I the only one who thinks his vocals on the 3rd album is a little compressed? The files are lossless quality, so it's not a problem in encoding. Sometimes it's kind of rough / noisy. I think I just don't like the way how his vocals were recorded, or mastered.

I love his voice, my mother likes them despite the huge breathes he takes...I never noticed until she mentioned it..I get over it because I love the songs regardless...leave it to a mom to screw things up.....I still love them and Tom and I am listening to Everybody's Changing now as I type.. I will listen to this complilation to go to sleep..I call it Keane 1, I have 3!

I think I know what you mean...His voice sounds harder on PS and seems to lack the depth of H&F/UTIS. Still love it though!

It's one of the parts I find fascinating. Actually, some singers deliberately put "breathing sound" into their vocals. Even a pop singer like AL does that. I have never felt she's sexy or something charming, though.

I used to think his breathing was kind of annoying so I'm glad that Tom has much, much better breath control and air support now than he used to (this is where being a music teacher has its faults...it's hard to turn off that side of my brain when I listen to music sometimes, though I've always been so impressed by Tom's voice that maybe that's why I listen closer).  Anyhoo, I mainly found it annoying  just on early live tracks (like from 2004) where he's taking huge gasping breaths which seem to me to be a mix of inexperience and nerves,  although IIAW drove me nuts when I first heard it because of the way Tom gasps/breathes through that song.  I agree though that some singers breathe more audibly on purpose; I think Tom's are a mix of on purpose (like She Has No Time seems more on purpose/for emotional value) and just the way he naturally breathes.  [/Geeked]

I love Tom's voice is simply wonderful!Big Smile he's a great interpreter!Yes you can notice in all the Keane songs but to me specially in '' The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore '' and ''A Heart To Hold You''! he has an amazing style! i already noticed that he takes breath, but that's a normal thing! isn't always and  sometimes is already part of his interpretation! i think he sings like an angel, and has a very carismatic style only of his own!

What can i say? i love him!

Well, I couldn't say something different from this... he's a fabulous singer, it's really impressive it seems that he can sing anything he wants to due to his powerful voice and his ability as an interpreter, he just puts his soul on every song he sings. Besides he also has that special thing hard to explain, so enigmatic and fascinating. I have already noticed his deep breath on some songs, but it just doens't bother me anymore, actually he doesn't do this anymore I guess, at least I didn't noticed it on the new songs. Anyway, I think he's truly gifted and yes the best singer of the moment.

I see, I was referring to his breathing on records, not the live recordings at early gigs. I think his breathing is more audible in H&F than other 2 records; and I kind of miss that.

I totally agree with your post!  I think the deep breaths he takes make his performances more appealing.  It adds a lot of emotion to his singing and sometimes can really get the emotional point of the song across.  Another boardie mentioned a while ago that she likes to hear Tom breathe and I know what she means!  It just makes his singing more passionate.  I'm not sure if that is his intention but it really has an incredible effect!

I have a degree in music. I am a singer, myself. I've been in choirs, taught choirs, and had extensive ear training. Not only does Tom have a naturally beautiful voice, he can actually sing in tune, which is really refreshing. There are some bands out there that you hear on the radio and think, "oooh, they'll be good live" only to be disappointed when the singer has a tin ear. Plus, he has a huge range, isn't afraid to sing falsetto, and has pretty damned good breath control.

Maybe he hasn't had formal training, but he has an amazing voice. I think he's definitely comparable to the immortal Mr. Mercury and other "best voices" in the U.K.

I never said it was Me who had a problem it's my mom...you know mom's they are NEVER happy...I love Tom and his voice,,,,why else would I listen to them at every free moment I have.  Not hearing them on the radio is total crap here...you should hear the drivel I have to listen to everyday at work....To be fair none of the stations here play them.....

I keep trying to get them on...maybe the Monk commercial will help???
